Welcome and thank you for taking the time to find out more about our leadership role.

This is an exciting opportunity for exciting times at Walsall Council as we continue on our journey of transformation. We are moving forward with purpose and improving rapidly as evidenced by our recent Childrens Services Ofsted judgement of 'Good'.

Walsall is renowned for its enterprising and industrial past and has for many years been reinventing itself as a progressive, modern and culturally diverse community with new housing, leisure facilities, and hotels, a world-class art gallery, hospital, college and sports hub.

The Walsall Council “PROUD” transformation programme is designed to continually improve services, our customers experience, our employee satisfaction and engagement with our service users, local communities and businesses. We have made significant progress with PROUD in many areas but there is still work to do. PROUD will help us achieve our goals, realise our ambitions and take us on to the next level and beyond.

You will feel welcome at Walsall and be well supported as a valued member of the team. We have high expectations though so you will need to be a credible, resilient manager who is prepared to challenge and be challenged, is determined and courageous enough to push boundaries and do things differently.

We are led by a strong set of corporate values with a clear vision and purpose. Our organisation is flexible and agile with access to some of the most up to date technologies available today. We invest in our people with online access to learning and development resources and internal opportunities to gain new skills and work experience. Many of our managers are supported with one to one coaching and mentoring to meet their personal development needs.

Corporately our key priorities are EPICC.

  • Economic growth for all people communities and businesses.
  • People have increased independence improved health and can positively contribute to their communities.
  • Internal focus, all services are efficient and effective.
  • Children have the best possible start and are safe from harm, happy, healthy and learning.
  • Communities are prospering and resilient with all housing needs met in safe and healthy places that build a strong sense of belonging and cohesion.

It is demanding, exciting and rewarding. The future is ours to make.
